Fell over many times due to the layer of ice beneath the snow. Finally made it to Ghorepani after 8 hours feeling absolutely shattered. Partially revived by some tomatoes crushed in boiling water. After dark some Australians arrived from Tatopani (with some of them suffering from frostbite) having walked through deep snow all the way, telling of 3 people killed in an avalanche along their route.

Rather depressingly when our guide asked local villagers about the presence of this species in the area he was repeatedly told that they were common up until ten years ago, but have since been widely shot for food. In addition to this he was told that they are being snared around Thare Pati. Along with the degradation of the habitat above Syabru principally by grazing goats, sheep and cattle the future looks bleak for this species in this area and no doubt others throughout Nepal.
